ECEE - European Center of Excellence for the Environment UDJG University Laboratory Sud-Est greater than 1.000.000 € The European Center of Excellence for the Environment (ECEE), operates within the Faculty of Sciences and the Environment, the Department of Chemistry, Physics and the Environment, was established in 1999, under the name of the Inter-Environment Department, being financially supported by the Dutch government (Program Matra RO / 97/04). In 2001, as a result of a rigorous competition organized by the European Union (PHARE program RO 9706.01.02), the Inter-Environmental Department of the "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati was classified as a European Center of Excellence for the Environment (ECEE).
ECEE includes in its structure, ten scientific research laboratories necessary to achieve the strategic objectives of which relevant for the implementation of Mission 3
ECEE aims to carry out scientific research and technological development in areas of excellence of the University.

In the development strategy, the ECCE center mainly aims at:
participation in national and international networks, together with other academic and non-academic institutions, dealing with issues related to sustainable environmental development;
active participation in research and development projects financed by national and international programs;
join local and national administration partners in organizing projects regarding environmental protection, sustainable development and the influence of environmental factors on the health of the population;
the training of specialists in various fields related to the environment;
providing consultancy and expertise in a wide range of issues that are directly or indirectly related to the environment;
organizing exchanges of students and teaching staff financially supported by international institutions that grant scholarships or by ECEE partners in international projects that grant funds from their budgets;

REXDAN Research Center - Integrated system for research and complex monitoring of the environment in the area of the Danube River UDJG University Research facility Sud-Est greater than 1.000.000 € The project "An Integrated System for the Complex Research and Monitoring of the Environment in the Danube River Area”, REXDAN (project code: 127065) aims at creating an interdisciplinary research infrastructure which belongs to the field of smart specialization: Energy, environment and climate change.
The infrastructure will have two components: a research vessel and a research centre, with a total of 18 laboratories. The research vessel will undertake research activities in: chemistry, biology, physics, environmental science, ecology, bathymetry, topography, atmospheric chemistry, sustainable development, related to water, sediments, soil, air, biodiversity, bathymetry, hydromorphology and will cover a wide geographical area (2000 km of the Danube navigable sector including wide coastal areas).
The REXDAN Research Infrastructure will contribute directly to increasing research performance through international cooperation with European and international research teams and will support scientific innovation at “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galați.
Preliminary analysis of some quality indicators in order to preserve the environmental samples to be subjected to qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses, followed by the preservation of the environmental samples;
Preparation of samples for the determination of environmental pollutants by their mineralization in order to determine the concentrations of heavy metals by spectral methods;
Extraction of toxic or potentially toxic organic compounds from samples taken for analysis with chromatographic methods;
determination of quality indicators regarding hardness, alkalinity, CBO5, etc. for water samples;
Obtaining pure and ultrapure water necessary for the preparation of chemical reagents used in laboratory analyzes and more.
Analysis of pharmaceutical compounds in water, sediment and aquatic biota samples, analysis of halogenated disinfection by-products and chlorinated solvents in water;
Determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from water and sediment, determination of organophosphorus pesticides from solid and liquid environmental samples;
Monitoring ozone precursors, polar and non-polar volatile organic compounds, halogenated compounds and oxygenated volatile organics (aldehydes and ketones) in ambient air and determining the level of pesticides and insecticides in water, sediment and biota;

The development of statistical models and algorithms for the estimation and monitoring of the global water quality index (WQI), the algorithmization of physical, chemical and biological parameters for the determination of quality classes for surface aquatic ecosystems;
Development of electrochemical biosensors for the detection of pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, toxic cations and anions.
Sorting and sorting samples of aquatic macroinvertebrates;
Determination and quantification of biological quality indicators according to the Water Framework Directive (macroinvertebrates, macrophytes, phytoplankton, chlorophyll); determination and assessment of quality and biological diversity indices for classifying surface aquatic ecosystems into quality classes according to the DCA;

The multidisciplinary experimental research center that allows the complex testing of innovative, technical and technological solutions in order to develop methods, constructive and technological solutions that will be the basis for increasing the competitiveness of the aquaculture sector, both from a scientific and socio-economic point of view.

Sfantu Gheorghe Marine and Fluvial Research Station (SCMF) UB University Research facility CMF is home of the Coastal Research Group (Faculty of Geography, University of Bucharest). It operates since 2002, providing support for developing research and educative activities in marine and coastal sciences. SCMF provides researchers and students the logistic support for undertaking observations, measurements and field experiments on natural processes, modelling factors and associated landforms or on coping ways of human communities to local environmental conditions, while providing the opportunity of exploring the entire coastal system including current and past form (geomorphology, geology), controlling factors of coastal processes: wind, waves, currents (oceanography), biodiversity (biogeography, ecology, palaeontology) or landscape (management, spatial planning, anthropology).
The research activities cover therefore a wide range of areas and topics aimed at gaining a better understanding of marine and coastal environment functionality and its changes at various spatial and temporal scales for configuring the optimal conditions for living in such a sensitive environment.
